Inspired by Cecil Sharp’s folk-song collecting, some of our leading composers of the early 20th century set about harmonising choral arrangements of recently unearthed gems.
The award-winning and internationally-performing Imperial Male Voice Choir, formed at Imperial College, London, has specialised in singing these rarely-heard works by such as Vaughan Williams, Holst (whose 150th birthday occurs in 2024), Grainger, Britten and Warlock.
In our “Seeds of Love” concert we will feature these along with more recent lower-voice arrangements of traditional songs from home and abroad. Some will invite audience participation!
We hope this will be a fitting tribute to Cecil Sharp, who died 100 years ago in June 1924 not far from here.
